WHAT’S GOING ON ?

Local Courses Gearing up for the European Tour School

Some of you guys who played in September and earlier this month at Las Colinas will have noticed the work being undertaken to get the course ready for the European Tour School Fase 2 – it is now well under way and the course is significantly improving, although being made tougher as all the fringes have now been over seeded and are growing up all around the greens. Well its not just Las Colinas but also both El Valle and La Manga South course which is also hosting fase 2 of the tour school so we look forward to the many hopefuls arriving in the area in the first week of December and look forward to seeing some great golf

AN OFFICE AT LAST!!

Ok so it may not be the most expansive shop in the world but I do now have an office and small shop – I am now based in the old office in the Breakaways complex which is part of the old Edificio el Tiron in Villamartin. From the entrance to Campoamor Golf Course travel the short distance up the road to the Mercadona Supermarket at the roundabout take the right hand road and travel 200mts down this road and you will come to the commercial centre (you will see the Rendevous Bar in front of you). Park here in the car park and walk round the opposite side to Rendevous and you will see Breakaways Bar underground – I am in here. Open from 11-2 & 5-7 during the weekdays and 11-1 on Saturdays. As you would expect I am the cheapest for Balls, Gloves etc and always carry 7 sets of hire clubs which rent out at 15€ day or 30€ per 3 days per set.

I now also carry a full range of Benross Equipment – Bags from 39€, Drivers from 99€, Fairways from 79€, Utilities from 69€, Wedges from 59€, Putters from 49€- All brand new high quality equipment at the keenest prices.

I look forward to meeting you here, where I will continue from, until I find the right premises for a larger shop

WHAT’S GOING ON ?

Darren Clarke Scores Emotional win at the Open Championship!

Some of you may be aware that I went over to England for a few days and whilst their I did take in a day at the Open Championship where it was great that Darren Clarke not only emerged from the shadows but appeared to be in total control all week albeit with a couple of moments of divine luck no doubt helped out by his former wife looking down from above. What was great about Darren winning is that you get the feeling that he is one of the boys and it was noticeable the size of the grins on commentators Mark James and Ken Brown after he won. Both these guys were top European tour players with many victories between them but, and this is no disrespect to Darren, they never really made it to world stars and yet it was as if one of their own had won. Don’t get me wrong their was a period in the late 90’s and early 00’s that Darren Clarke could have been called world class with two WGC events under his belt, but the slightly overweight (aren’t we all now?,) cigarette puffing, greying, Guinness fan is after all one of us and one of the boys which is why so many people connected so well with his victory

Polaris World Courses – Latest News

Just to try and keep every one up to date with the latest position regarding the golf courses originally laid out by Polaris World and between form the Nicklaus Golf Trail.

In May 2010 The banks took Mar Menor Golf Resort, Alhama Signature (formerly Condado del Alhama) & Saurines de la Torre (formerly Las Terrazas del la Torre) as well as the Intercontinental Hotel at Mar Menor away from Polaris control and into their own control of IRM. For the 3 golf courses IRM bought in Jose Maria Olazabal’s company Ola Golf to manage the 3 courses for them. Whilst Ola golf is particularly slow at coming back on requests they are an OK company to dea<l with and are pretty reasonable.

In June 2011 – the banks have now taken the remaining three courses (El Valle, La Torre & Hacienda Riquelme) from Polaris and again will come under the control of IRM – Polaris now no longer manage these courses.

At present there is a plan going forward that a former director of Polaris take all 6 courses back and runs them as the Nicklaus Golf Trail – but this is where we are currently at and awaiting confirmation.

Therefore at present I am happy continuing booking the courses managed by Ola golf but at present will not take any money for any bookings for El Valle, Hacienda Riquelme & La Torre Golf resorts until the situation is finalised

WHAT’S GOING ON ?

Rory wins the US Open!

I’m sure most of you were like me and glued to the TV last night to watch Rory Mcllroy manage to cross the finish line in style after the disappointment at the Masters. Well done Rory lets keep the European Tour flag flying in the rest of the majors and I’m sure Rory will win more now that he has got the first one out of the way. It was also good to see Sergio Garcia back and playing well albeit still struggling with the putter and there was a great story with Robert Rock arriving at 3.30am on Thursday morning (I guess the celebrations after his first tour win the week before went on a bit too long!) played the course blind and very tired yet was amongst the leaders at half way at 1 under and finished his first US open in 1 over!

3 local courses selected for Euopean Tour Qualifying School

Last Monday the European Tour Qualifying School Phase 2 courses were announced – Last year both El Valle and Hacienda Del Alamo were selected and for this year we have gone one better as 3 out of the 4 courses required are in our very own corner of Spain. Having been selected last year El Valle then went on to receive the Spanish Seniors Europen Tour event where Carl Mason came home to finally beat Tommy Hortons record of most wins on the Seniors Tour. After 20 years away the tour school will also be visiting La Manga utilising the South Course. More significant maybe is that the 3rd course selected is Las Colinas Golf and Country Club – only now been opened 1 year this course continues to be the most requested course in the area and is building on its Golf World award of one of the top 5 new courses worldwide in 2010.

For those golfers who continue to believe the better courses are further south in the Costa Del Sol or over the border in Portugal may just have to think again

Charity Golf Event – May 22nd – Vistabella

Thank you all for your support on this event myself and Mark Shakespeare both managed the 5 rounds in 11 and a half hours raising over 1500€ for charity

Hi again,

we are in the process of setting up a simple shop section on the website. So many clients forget to bring items with them or are put off by the cost of transporting clubs, that we have decided to invest in some quality rental clubs as well as sourcing discounts on balls, gloves, shoes etc. It's not up and running fully just yet but it is sure to be a popular section on the site.
